01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

In the office district of Nihonbashi 3-chome, 釣宿酒場 マヅメ 日本橋店 is a relaxed place to stop for fresh fish. There is a live-fish tank inside, and the menu includes sashimi and a range of seafood dishes. One of the house specialities, “Freshly Ground! Direct-from-source Fish Coated in Golden Sesame,” pairs fragrant golden sesame with fish and has earned praise from diners. It is a dish to consider ordering first.

Lunch comes with unlimited freshly cooked sea bream rice

The lunchtime highlight is a set meal with unlimited servings of sea bream rice. Enjoy the rice, cooked with the deep flavour of sea bream, on its own first, then pair it with sides such as agedashi tofu, fried chicken or sea bream sashimi with sesame. To finish, pour sea bream broth over the rice for ochazuke. Other set meals for fish lovers include bara chirashi, a bowl of salmon and negitoro, and grilled fish.

Evening drinks, small sushi rolls and local sake

In the evening, the menu shifts to drinks and small plates. Fish dishes include a house-made large horse mackerel fry served with fresh seaweed tartar sauce, and kelp-cured Hakuju Madai 0 topped with karasumi. There are also hearty options such as offal simmered with tofu and plate shumai with a thickened egg sauce. The “izakaya snack rolls” make good bites between drinks: choices include toro-taku, Dazai and eel-and-egg rolls. Drinks include “Don-yasu,” whose price drops with each successive drink, matcha genmaicha highballs, and local sake sourced daily from different parts of Japan. The selection suits anything from a casual solo drink to a group gathering.
